Ohio State football is always a national championship contender, and the 2025 schedule is loaded. Here's every game, every opponent, and what to expect from the Buckeyes this season.

The full schedule

Week 1 (Aug 30): vs. Akron β€” Home opener at Ohio Stadium. This is a tune-up game against an in-state FCS opponent. Ohio State should win by 40+.

Week 2 (Sep 6): vs. Western Michigan β€” Another home game, another easy win. The Buckeyes will use this to work out the kinks before Big Ten play starts.

Week 3 (Sep 13): vs. Texas (neutral site, Arlington, TX) β€” The first real test. Texas is a top-10 team, and this game will be a preview of a potential playoff matchup. Kickoff is at 7:30 PM ET on ABC.

Week 4 (Sep 20): vs. Marshall β€” Back home for another non-conference game. Ohio State should dominate.

Week 5 (Sep 27): at Michigan State β€” The first Big Ten road game. Michigan State is rebuilding, but they're always tough at home. This is a trap game.

Week 6 (Oct 4): vs. Iowa β€” Iowa's defense is always elite, and this will be a grind. Ohio State should win, but it won't be pretty.

Week 7 (Oct 11): at Oregon β€” The biggest regular-season game. Oregon is a playoff contender, and Autzen Stadium is one of the toughest places to play in college football. This game could decide the Big Ten title.

Week 8 (Oct 18): vs. Nebraska β€” Nebraska is improving, but Ohio State should handle them at home.

Week 9 (Oct 25): BYE WEEK

Week 10 (Nov 1): at Penn State β€” White Out at Beaver Stadium. Penn State is always dangerous at home, and this is a must-win for both teams.

Week 11 (Nov 8): vs. Purdue β€” Purdue is solid, but Ohio State should win comfortably at home.

Week 12 (Nov 15): at Indiana β€” Indiana is not a threat. This is a get-right game before the Michigan game.

Week 13 (Nov 22): vs. Michigan β€” The Game. Ohio State vs. Michigan. The biggest rivalry in college football. Everything is on the line.

The toughest games

1. at Oregon (Oct 11): This is the game that could decide the Big Ten championship. Oregon is loaded, and Autzen Stadium is a nightmare for visiting teams.

2. vs. Michigan (Nov 22): Ohio State has lost three straight to Michigan, and the pressure is on. This game will define the season.

3. at Penn State (Nov 1): Penn State at night in a White Out is one of the hardest environments in college football. Ohio State needs to survive this one.

4. vs. Texas (Sep 13): A neutral-site game against a top-10 team. This is a statement game early in the season.

What to expect from the Buckeyes

Ohio State has the talent to win the national championship. They're loaded at every position, and Ryan Day is one of the best coaches in the country. The offense will be explosive, and the defense is much improved from last year.

The schedule is tough, but manageable. If Ohio State can win at Oregon and beat Michigan, they'll be in the playoff. If they lose both, they're probably out.

The key is staying healthy. Ohio State has depth, but injuries to key players (especially at quarterback) could derail the season.

How to watch

Most Ohio State games are on FOX, ABC, or ESPN. The biggest games (Texas, Oregon, Michigan) will be on ABC or FOX in prime time. If you're a cord-cutter, YouTube TV or Hulu + Live TV will get you every game.

For fans in Ohio, every game is also broadcast on local radio (97.1 The Fan in Columbus).
